![]() Loosen the adjuster bolt on the tensioner and rotate the engine two turns clockwise and realign the timing. The circle on the crankshaft sprocket and the diamond marks on the oil pump and the triangle marks on the camshaft sprocket should always stay lined up. I understand how to line up the marks on the crank with the plastic cover/TDC, but there are to other pulleys with marks on them and then the same marks are on the plastic part mounted to the engine. Install the new timing belt starting on the right side and work counterclockwise. Release tensioner bolt to let the tensioner spring against the belt then tighten the bolt back down to hold in place. HELP I have a 1996 Ford Ranger 2.3 L and I am currently in the process of installing the timing belt as I am writing this. Crankshaft pulley->oil pump pulley->camshaft pulley->hold slack at tensioner. Start with looping the belt around the crankshaft pulley first and move counter clockwise ending with all the slack at the tensioner. Once its in you can take a break or go ahead and force the tenioner all the way clockwise and then tighten down the adjustment bolt to hold it in place so the belt can go on. To do this you will need to start with the tensioner arm a little more counter-clockwise than it is suppose to be.
