![]() Frida is looking for a home where someone can continue her education and make artful memories with her, so if that person could be you, we'd love to chat! Frida is up to date on dental check, Coggins, vaccination, and deworming. We named her in honor of artist Frida Kahlo for the cute little unibrow shaped marking across her chest. She is surely a flashy gal and folks always marvel at her markings. We think she will make a calm and thoughtful riding partner one day under saddle when the time is right, and the training is kind. She's less skittish and jumpy than the average free-roaming horse we bring in though and it seems she's poised to progress by leaps and bounds with a bit more time invested in her education. She was "food friendly" on arrival meaning someone had been feeding this herd occasionally so some of them willingly approach people looking for snackies, but she had not had any formal handling that we can tell. She can now be caught by thoughtful people she knows, can be led by an experienced handler, has learned to tie, and is progressing with other grooming and handling. She has bloomed beautifully since her arrival at KHS with basic care and is coming around to domestication with time and patience. ![]() There is likely some Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse influence, but she does not seem to be gaited or rack that we've seen so far. Frida is around 2 years old, is currently a hair over 14 hands tall while still growing and her exact breed is not known. Rosa stands like a champ for bathing and fly spray We are recommending a confident intermediate handler/rider for Rosa.Frida was collected along with her free roaming herd of 10 on February 14th 2023 when they were eating sticks and bark in the mountains struggling to maintain their weight to make it to the next Spring. THOROUGHBRED MAKEOVER COMPETITION 16 plus hands. She is still adjusting to the ranch and is a bit nervous, but she is sweet and enjoys being groomed and doted on. Our trainer evaluated Rosa and discovered she is trained for riding. She currently wears a fly mask with added UV protection when she is outside of her stall. The ASPCA's Right Horse is a collective of equine industry and welfare professionals and advocates working together to improve the lives of horses in transition. Her white skin surrounding her eye is sensitive to the sun and she requires UV protection when outside. My Right Horse is an extension of the ASPCA's focus on massively increasing horse adoption. ![]() Rosa's right eye is suspicious of pre-squamous cells but currently she only requires monitoring. She will also require a senior grain, like Purina's Equine Senior, to supplement her hay and pasture. She has several molars missing and will require dental exams every 6 months by a veterinarian. Rosa came to Longmeadow with extreme dental neglect. She would be comfortable living in a pasture with rolling hills but no steep inclines. Due to this injury she is restricted to being ridden only at a walk and on flat ground. Our vet imaged the leg and discovered that she has damage to both her pastern and coffin joints. We immediately noticed a scar on her left hind down the length of her cannon bone. Rosa is a draft and Paint cross who came to LRR from a situation of neglect.
